Poets House Presents Virtual Readings
Due to the coronavirus, please call to ensure this event is still happening before you leave home.
Poets House will present a reading by poet and practicing psychotherapist Genya Turovskaya from her book The Breathing Body of This Thought. The reading will be live-streamed on the Poets House Twitter page on Friday, July 17th at 12:00 PM EST, and will also be available on the Poets House Facebook page, IGTV, and YouTube channel. Genya Turovskaya is the author of The Breathing Body of This Thought (Black Square Editions) as well as numerous chapbooks. Her poetry and translations of contemporary Russian poets have appeared in A Public Space, Asymptote, Chicago Review, Conjunctions, Fence, Gulf Coast, jubilat, Octopus, Paris Review, PEN Poetry, Sangam Poetry, Seedings, The Elephants, and other publications. She lives in New York City where she is a practicing psychotherapist.
And at 3:00 PM EST Peggy DeCoursey will read July 17 from Bernadette Mayer’s Memory. The reading will be available on the Poets House Instagram page, YouTube channel, and website. Peggy is a longtime friend of Bernadette. Bernadette led her to NYC’s community of poets, a source of friendships, learning and pleasure ever since. She lives in Brooklyn and spends much of her time reading. This upcoming reading is part of the Language is a Temptation series of daily readings throughout the month of July.
Throughout July, Poets House and Siglio Press will embark on a month long daily experiment: a passage from the corresponding day in 1971 will be read by poets, writers, critics, and artists, as a parallel durational work that celebrates the new publication of Bernadette Mayer’s Memory, which brings together the full sequence of images and text for the first time in book form.
Founded by two-time U.S. Poet Laureate Stanley Kunitz and legendary arts administrator Elizabeth Kray, Poets House serves as a home for all who read and write poetry. In 2009, Poets House moved into its permanent home at 10 River Terrace in Battery Park City on the banks of the Hudson River where, last year, 80,000 people walked through its doors, and more than five million were introduced to Poets House through its new website and national partnerships. 2017 marks the 30th Anniversary Celebration of this landmark institution.
