Join the Austrian Cultural Forum New York on November 4 at 7:30 PM for a night with Daniela Bauer! Admission is free. RSVP and proof of vaccination is required.

Yela, also known as Daniela Bauer, blends the sounds and rhythms of her upbringing in her songs. Her writing may lean towards that of singer-songwriter, but she weaves in rhythms of her African heritage and loves to use percussive elements in her playing.

If the three main building blocks of music consist of Melody, Harmony and Rhythm, then Rhythm is the least complex in popular American/European music. But a variety of music from the African diaspora have a heavy emphasis on the rhythmic element. Yela’s intention is to bring more gravity towards rhythmic feel as well, whilst still being true to the traditional song-form of the tradition of the great singer-songwriters.

Part of the program will also include a special live premiere of music from NYC – This is Us, a two-part collaborative music video project between Austrian musicians based in the New York area, focusing on first-hand impressions from NYC during the peak of its COVID-19 crisis and the months to follow.
