The Harlem Roots Festival
We are virtual again this year, being safe and considerate of our esteemed guests.
Join us on a SAVOY SUNDAY for an Authentic Harlem Cultural Dance Experience: The Harlem Roots and Rhythm Urban Dance Festival for 2021! This annual event brings back the Legendary Dancers of the Savoy Ballroom and the Savoy Manor. These icons made history with the famed New York City dance contest The Harvest Moon Ball by showcasing Harlem's famed dance of the Lindy Hop!
This year we celebrate two Harvest Moon Ball Champs from the Savoy Ballroom era: Sonny Allen and Barbara Billups. Hear from them the importance of keeping a piece of this famed dance culture Home in Harlem! There will be a Dance Workshop, a Historical review of the Harvest Moon Ball contest and Lindy Hop’s critical input,
You’ll also hear special Remembrances of the HOT 5…. See who they are! This special evening includes paying tribute to honor the career of the beloved Harvest Moon Ball King George Sullivan.
The Harlem Roots and Rhythm Urban Dance Fest is made possible in part with funding from the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation and is administered by LMCC.
