If you’re traveling with kids in New York City, you know the importance of adding some kid activities to the mix—like visiting toy stores! Just like anything else in New York, the city offers a lot of great toy stores. Here are some all-time favorites.
1. Midtown Comics
If you have older kids that are into comic books, Midtown Comics would be the place to take them. Even if they weren’t into comic books, it is still a cool store where you can just peruse through all the different items and get lost in different stories. Comic books can even work as a souvenir!
2. Kidding Around
Kidding Around has been a part of New York for more than 20 years already. The independent toy store is a favorite amongst New Yorkers and when you step inside you will quickly understand why. The store is filled with toys, old classics and new fun things that will keep your kids entertained for a long time!
3. The LEGO Store
The LEGO Store will keep any kid occupied for a long, long time. Most of us spent our time building lego growing up, so we can relate to the excitement it would bring to walk into a Lego store for the first time and seeing all the different things you could potentially build! The LEGO store has locations by Rockefeller Center and the Flatiron District.
4. Disney Store
Let your kid feel like a prince or princess in a Disney movie in the Disney Store in Times Square! Let your kid peruse through the different sections and toys, in the search for his or her favorite toys and characters. The Disney Store also brings out the nostalgic feeling for the grown-ups so everyone, no matter the age, will have a good time here.
5. The Children’s General Store
The Children's General Store, a toy located on the Upper East Side, is a small store but don’t let that scare you off. The store is filled with a great selection of toys and your kids are sure to walk out with a new favorite toy!
6. Build-A-Bear Workshop
What kid says no to building their own bear? The Build A Bear Workshop consists of you picking the color of the fur, the color of its eyes, its scent (yes, they stuff the bear with whatever scent you want!) and so much more. The coolest feature is probably the option of recording a message! Basically, you get to design the bear you want and it is also a great gift for those at home.
