Pope Selfie Ops: Now at Madame Tussauds New York

Pope selfies available now in New York! Madame Tussauds New York paid homage to His Holiness by immortalizing the beloved Pontifex in wax. Tussauds also fashioned its very own take on the “Pope Mobile,” in order to give the Bishop of Rome a proper tour of New York City before installing him in Madame Tussauds’ legendary World Leaders Gallery. The figure is dressed in the Pope’s traditional Papal attire, which was donated by the very same manufacturer which provides clothing to the Vatican. Standing with his arm raised to address the masses, the figure features a humble white cassock, Papal robes, a pellegrina shoulder cape, and a fascia silk sash. Wearing his glasses, zucchetto cap, and pectoral cross, Pope Francis’ figure is impeccably detailed and instantaneously recognizable.

Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Beroglio in Argentina, was elected the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church in February of 2013, following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI. Pope Francis is known for his efforts at modernization, his devotion to his faith, and his continual fight for social justice. His Holiness’s figure will reside with Pope John Paul II in Madame Tussauds New York, and will be prominently featured overlooking a backdrop of St. Peter’s Square, from which he addresses his Papal audience.

The real Pope Francis will drive through Central Park, address the United Nations, visit the 9/11 Memorial and conduct evening prayer at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Madison Square Garden during his visit to New York.
