Some of the biggest names in laughter (Louis C.K., Jim Gaffigan) are New York products, with superstars like Jerry Seinfeld making the rounds this winter. What follows are eight must-see stand up comedy shows for December and January in New York City.

Awooga Comedy Hour, People’s Improv Theater

Look for the glowing red theater in the Flatiron District for a standup comedy show to remember. Awooga is bringing in some of today’s hottest NYC comedians for a special holiday show for only $5 (or $1 with student ID). Need more to look forward to? Watch as hosts Andrew Tavin, Griffin Newman, and Alejandro Kolleeny fumble to solve an audience member’s real-life problem. Dec. 23rd.

If You Build It, UCB East

This is another established weekly show in NYC’s comedy scene every Sunday night. It’s one that could surprise you with drop-ins from famed comedians in addition to the stellar lineups host Kara Klenk prepares for her beloved audience. You’ll never see the same show twice, so go every week if your heart desires.

New Year's Eve Special at Broadway Comedy Club

The Broadway Comedy Club brings two sets of comedic action to your New Year's Eve. The talent includes Steve Marshall (Food Network), Sue Costello (Fox), Chips Cooney (America's Got Talent), and Daniel Tirado (Comedy Central). Shows are at 8pm and 10:30pm, with the latter including a midnight champagne toast.

Judah Friedlander Brings in the New Year at Stand Up NY

Stand Up NY is pulling out all the comedy stops to close out 2015, with a VIP Open Bar option alongside general admission tickets to the talent of comedians like Mark Normand, Yamaneika Saunders, and Yannis Pappas. 30 Rock's Judah Friedlander headlines.

Jerry Seinfeld, Beacon Theater

In case you haven’t heard, Jerry Seinfeld is doing a year-long standup residency at the beautiful Beacon Theater beginning in January. Snag your tickets to see the famous comedian and star of the namesake show Seinfeld perform his original material at his favorite theater for a show that will surely sell out. Jan. 7.

Colin Quinn: The New York Story, Cherry Lane Theater

Former Saturday Night Live cast member and current actor/standup comedian Colin Quinn is back for a second one-man show directed by the one and only Jerry Seinfeld (see above). His show will be 60 minutes of classic Colin Quinn stories and observations that will really give you a hilarious sense of what living in New York City is really like. Through Jan. 31.
