The Green - Brooklyn Bowl
September 08, 2019 - Brooklyn

Since forming on O'ahu, Hawai'i, in 2009, The Green has become one of the most successful and beloved bands in the reggae genre. During their relatively short career, the band has been awarded a Best Reggae Album nod from iTunes (2010, for their self-titled debut), four coveted Na Hoku Hanohano awards in their native Hawai'i (2011 and 2014, including Group of the Year, two different Reggae Albums of the Year and Entertainer of the Year), and two #1 Billboard Reggae chart debuts, along with charting on the Billboard Top 200. Not bad for a band that was formed by six members of Hawai'i's tight-knit music scene to record a few songs and have some fun. The Green was one of the first Hawaiian reggae bands to tour extensively on the mainland, as well as going further afield to New Zealand, Japan and other locales. Before becoming a headliner on their own, the band supported bands like Bruno Mars, Rebelution, Michael Franti, Iration, SOJA, and Damian Marley, as well as performed at acclaimed festivals including Vans Warped Tour, Wakarusa, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, and California Roots Festival.

Yacht Rock Revue - Brooklyn Bowl
September 11, 2019 - Brooklyn

You're Welcome! The Yacht Rock Revue is the Greatest Show on Surf and the finest tribute to '70s light rock to ever perform anywhere. Ever. Their spot-on renditions of Hall & Oates, Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, and the rest of the Time-LifeInfomercial Catalog have enthralled fans across the United States. It goes without saying they have taken their act to the high seas, performing showcase sets on music cruises with Weezer, Kid Rock, Train, Zac Brown Band, Sister Hazel, and fitness guru Jillian Michaels. By blurring the lines between a tribute, an original act, and a comedic troupe, the Yacht Rock Revue has forged a unique niche market and a special bond with their fans. The band attacks each song as if it were their own, and the energy exchanged between the band and the crowd has more in common with a stadium U2 show than that of a typical bar band. The band has won accolades ranging from "Best Place to Get Drunk With Your Dad" to "Best Overall Music Act in Atlanta" to "Best Place to Start an Extramarital Affair," and has been name-dropped by the New York Times, Pitchfork, the Guardian UK,Spin, TimeOut New York, Billboard, MTV.com, and (probably) your mom at her last cocktail ... Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds - Brooklyn Bowl
September 14, 2019 - Brooklyn

Known far and wide as the impossibly big voiced leader of acclaimed soul collective Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, singer Arleigh Kincheloe has made an astonishing leap forward with Sister Sparrow's new LP, GOLD. Produced by Carter Matschullat (Chef'Special, Secret Weapons), the album sees Sister Sparrow taking the classic brass-fueled Dirty Birds sound and turning it into something altogether new: a soul-blasted contemporary pop sound both timeless yet utterly now. Recorded mere months after Kincheloe became a new mother, songs like the evocative first single, "Ghost," and the ebullient title track highlight Sister Sparrow's strikingly strong vocals while also showcasing her growing muscle as an individualistic, communicative songwriter. "It was uncharted waters for me in a lot of ways," she says. "It's a bit of a departure from what I've done before, it's me really seeking my own personal sound. Like motherhood, making an album is a really personal thing." For nearly a decade, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds have been hailed for their explosive brand of modern soul, equally celebrated for their three studio albums and electrifying live performances. Kincheloe grew up amongs... (read more)

The Body With Assembly of Light Choir - The Bell House
September 15, 2019 - Brooklyn

Ages 18+ On No One Deserves Happiness, The Body's Chip King and Lee Buford set out to make "the grossest pop album of all time." The album themes of despair and isolation are delivered by the unlikely pairing of the Body's signature heaviness and 80s dance tracks. The Body can emote pain like no other band, and their ability to move between the often strict confines of the metal world and the electronic music sphere is on full display throughout No One Deserves Happiness, an album that eludes categorization. More than any of their genre-defying peers, The Body does it without softening their disparate influences towards a middle ground, but instead through a beautiful combining of extremes. No One Deserves Happiness is an album that defies definition and expectations, standing utterly alone. Buford and King are outliers at their core, observing the world as if apart from it. They strive for music without a category. They embody many contrasts. They are open and playful as well as thoughtful and disciplined. Live, they deliver punishing volume and scale with their spare duo set up, expanding their sound through a complex set of effects on both guitar and drums. For records, they a... (read more)
