Coney Island Kicks Off Summer with Mermaid Parade and More

Summer officially begins June 21, and Coney Island is ready to celebrate, with fireworks, baseball and the colorful, 33rd annual Mermaid Parade.

“Coney Island continues to be New York City’s local entertainment destination. Our accessibility makes Coney Island a desired location for locals and tourists alike, and we are expecting another record-breaking summer season. In addition to the beach and boardwalk, we have a full slate of free public events offering a variety of activities for everyone,” says Johanna Zaki, Executive Director of the Alliance for Coney Island.

Tonight (June 19), the Alliance for Coney Island kicks-off Friday Night Fireworks on the Boardwalk, near West 12th Street. Fireworks will take place each Friday night through August 21.

On Saturday, June 20, the 33rd Annual Mermaid Parade will take place along Surf Avenue. A celebration of ancient mythology and honky-tonk rituals of the seaside, the Mermaid Parade showcases over 1,500 creative individuals from all over the five boroughs and beyond.

Next up, the Brooklyn Cyclones will host their home opener against the Staten Island Yankees. The Cyclones will have family deals throughout the season and $10 ticket Wednesdays. There will also be three theme days this season, Star Wars Day on July 11, Princess & Pirates on July 18, and 80s Night on July 29.
