NYC Queens Summer Activities: Museum of the Moving Image

As the name suggests, MoMI dedicates itself to all things moving image, such as film, television, and digital media. All summer long, you can catch screenings and events of artistry that shaped the world of film like the Changing the Picture series, which celebrates artists of color on the screen throughout history. On July 22, the Jim Henson Exhibition will bring together a display of his work and life. If you’re a Muppets fan, this means good news: puppets like Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, and Elmo will be there for you to see. 3601 35th Ave., 718-777-6888, movingimage.us

NYC Queens Summer Activities: Flushing Meadows Corona Park

More than your standard park, Flushing Meadows offers a wide range of activities. You can take pictures in front of the giant globe and do some scenery-gazing. Then, head into the Queens Museum to see some stellar art. If science is more your thing, there’s a museum for that too, the New York Hall of Science. For a more lively activity, there’s even the Queens Zoo, which is bigger than any you’ll find in Manhattan. All of this sound overwhelming? Take a breather at the Queens Botanical Garden, also on-site. 11101 Corona Ave., 718-760-6565, nycgovparks.org

NYC Queens Summer Activities: Citi Field

Citi Field is a baseball stadium in Queens that serves as home to the famous Mets. Nothing says summer like going down to the ballpark to catch a game and eat a hotdog. Not a sports fan? You should still keep an eye on the upcoming events at Citi Field this summer. In the coming months, you’ll be able to catch live music from big names. Linkin Park and Blink-182, as well as Lady Gaga, have upcoming shows in addition to The Classic East and The Meadows Music and Arts Festival. 123-01 Roosevelt Ave., 718-507-6387, newyork.mets.mlb.com

NYC Queens Summer Activities: Rockaway Beach and Boardwalk

Summertime just isn’t complete without a trip to the beach, and Rockaway has you covered. While here, you can laze around in the sand, take a dip in the lifeguarded waters, play a game of volleyball, or grab a bite to eat. The newly opened Rockaway Beach Bakery is not to be missed, as well as the Rockaway Brewing Company and the Rockaway Beach Surf Club for all you food and beverage needs. 8601 Shore Front Pkwy., 718-318-4000, nycgovparks.org
